Opening Credits Hat Toss

The following photos and commentary were submitted in an email from a regular visitor to this website.

I believe the scene from the open, where they show Donaldson's and zoom in on MTM a couple times quickly, gives a good idea of the landscape over by Donaldson's. I believe the camera was over on the corner by Daytons, near the stop light that is visible in the pict also (location 'B' on the map), if you pay close attention to that photo, you can see the stop light that is over by Donaldson's, that gives a good idea of where the corner was, and where the sidewalk would of ended.

Another great quality of this photo, is that you can see the walking patterns of the pedestrians crossing the street. On the Donaldson's side - to the right of the stop light. On the Dayton's side, notice how far the pedestrians are from the red 'open tonight' sign on Donaldson's, and how hard it would be to get an angle with her crossing a street, and still have the sign behind her, on the Dayton's side. Also, the sign is much smaller in this view, so if she were in fact by Dayton's, the sign, mail box, and power box wouldn't be as large, or possibly not even visible.

A new photo (walkacross.jpg) I'm including is one of a quick scene of her walking by Donaldson's (but not in the same wardrobe as the toss), I believe it was filmed from the Dayton's corner again, and this clip allows you to see her clearly crossing the street (Donaldson's to IDS block),you can also see people crossing the street by Dayton's, and in the photo you can see someone crossing from the IDS block over Nicolet to Dayton's, just before the scene cuts.

This makes it clear to me that the camera is over by Dayton's, and that she was crossing over by Donaldson's. So this clip parallels the toss clip, because you can look at the size of the sign and proximity to MTM, in this pict that we know what side she is crossing on. Compare this to the toss picture, the size, and proximity, are almost the same. I don't believe there would be any locale that would make the postman, mailboxes, power box, and red sign, as clear and as large except for my thought of crossing Donaldson's-IDS. I just don't see how being over on the Dayton's side, those things could be as clear and seem near. I hope all of this has explained my thinking.

Map Key:
A = Where MTM stood when the camera ('B') panned in and out quickly on her

B = Where the camera was when it filmed MTM on location 'A' (and maybe even the toss itself)

C = My fear of where they are going to say the toss happened (probably with the statue looking right at Saks Fifth Ave)

D = Where I think the toss happened; with the mailboxes and power box in green just behind, and the red sign on the building

M = Where I think the statue should be placed
*The arrow points out the general direction that the toss was filmed. The Dayton's shot above is a good view of where the stop light is over at Dayton's, and where the camera was when it filmed the zoom in, among other things.
